WILLIAMSON VALLEY FIRE DISTRICT PARAMEDIC PROGRAM

Notice on Accreditation

 

The Williamson Valley Fire District Paramedic program has been issued a Letter of Review by the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP). This letter is NOT a CAAHEP accreditation status, it is a status signifying that a program seeking initial accreditation has demonstrated sufficient compliance with the accreditation standards through the Letter of Review Self-Study Report (LSSR) and other documentation. Letter of Review is recognized by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) for eligibility to take the National Registry’s Paramedic credentialing examination(s). However, it is NOT a guarantee of eventual accreditation.

NREMT and Arizona State Paramedic Certification

 This program is designed “To prepare competent entry-level Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic‚ in cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills) and affective (behavior) learning domains.”

Upon successful completion of the program, successful completion of the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technician’s Paramedic examinations, and certification by the ADHS/BEMS, you will be eligible to practice as a Certified Paramedic in the State of Arizona.

Earn Your Degree

Williamson Valley Fire District and Columbia Southern University (CSU) have joined together to provide an Applied Science (AS) or Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Paramedicine upon successful course completion and other requirements required by CSU. 30 credit hours from paramedic school transfer towards your degree. Additionally, as a CSU learning partner you will receive a 10% discount on the remainder of your credit hours to earn your degree.

The didactic portion of the course consists of 528 classroom hours.

The clinical/vehicular portion of the program consists of 668 additional hours. These hours will include working in Surgery, Intensive Care Units, Respiratory Therapy, Emergency Department, Labor and Delivery and Pediatrics, as well as with approved paramedic-preceptors on ambulances and rescue units.

Prerequisites to Enroll

  • 18 years of age or older
  • Government photo ID
  • High School Diploma/GED/or equivalent
  • Proof of 9th-grade reading competency
  • Current EMT certification (AZ, NREMT, or valid other states)
  • AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers CPR certification

Additional Requirements

  • Pass a background check
  • Ability to pass a 10-panel drug screen
  • Negative TB test within the last 12 months
  • Vaccinations/Titers/Tests (or sign applicable declination forms) for MMR, Influenza, Hep B, Covid, Tetanus, Varicella and negative TB test.

Classes meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 0800-1700 each day

Program duration is 10 months
