The Bug Creek Fire started south of Cordes Junction off I-17 near mile marker 262 and was reported at 10:45 a.m. June 28, 2016.  Numerous residents were evacuated as structures were in immediate threat of the over 1000 acres fast moving wildfire.  As of July 1st 2016, the fire is 100% contained.  Mayer Fire along with Central Arizona Fire Medical Authority, Prescott Fire Department, Black Canyon City Fire District, Camp Verde Fire District, Prescott National Forest, BLM, AZ State Fire, YCSO, DPS, ADOT, AZDEM, APS, and numerous local volunteers assisted in the suppression, evacuation, and logistical needs.  A job well done by all as there were no reported injuries or structures lost.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Mayer Fire Personnel had the honor of cooking and serving lunch to many of our local DPS and YCSO Officers at the annual Mayer Meals on Wheels Officer Appreciation BBQ.  Pictured being awarded for supreme service and sacrifice are DPS Trooper Jeremy Barr and YCSO Deputy Chuck Owens.

MAYER FIRE DISTRICT: May 26, 2016

On Tuesday May 17, 2016, the Mayer Fire District Governing Board selected Karen Paterno to serve on the Fire Board. The board vacancy fills the position vacated by Jeremy Tucker and will end in November of 2018. Karen Paterno has been a Mayer resident for 30 years and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting. The Mayer Fire District would like to welcome Karen to our board and we look forward to working with her in the future. Two qualified candidates applied for the open position. Michele Baca who has been a Mayer resident for 3 years also showed interest to serve the community as a fire board member.

The Mayer Fire Board is currently full and will have two positons up for election in November 2016. The term will run from November 2016 to November 2020.

On May 18th, Mayer Fire along with DPS met with the 3rd grade elementary school students to talk about public safety.  The kids had a blast asking questions and learning about firefighting/police equipment.

Mayer Firefighters assisted with serving food at the 2016 Mayer Daze and joined the parade on May 14th.  MFD also held an open house at fire station 21 which is located across the street from the event itself.

Newly hired FF/Paramedic Lannah Romman had her badge pinning ceremony at November’s Fire Board meeting.  He brother (pinning the badge) accompanied by her family was on hand for the special event.
